SERVICES

My college counseling services are tailored to you.  Every search must feature some of the same important elements, but when they should happen and in what measure is different for every family.  See below what I’ll help your son or daughter accomplish.

What We'll Accomplish

Identifying and learning about colleges and universities that fit.

Learning how to make the most of a college visit and shine in the college interview when it is available.

Building a final college list that features both risk and safety, in a balance that is appropriate to him or her.

Making sure his or her standardized testing plan is sound.

Choosing the best strategy among application plans, including thoughtful consideration of early decision and early action options.

Completing the college application in a way that highlights his or her best qualities and true potential.

Brainstorming for and writing compelling application essays.  There will be lots of drafts!

And, perhaps most exciting, making a final choice among offers of admission!

If we start early, I also can offer advice about curricular choices and extracurricular and community involvement.

Let’s talk about your specific needs and determine a plan.  We can begin as early as your sophomore year.

Let's Get Started!

In addition to these important elements of the college search, I also provide help with:

Calming parents down

Calming kids down

Motivating kids who are too calm

Calming parents down (yes, I say that twice)

Dispelling myths perpetuated by friends, family and acquaintances

Infusing optimism

Keeping optimism in check

Preserving peace between parents and students

Making everyone think a little bit outside the box

In general, colleges are much more concerned about how a kid grows from a summer program than what, exactly, they did.  Your child might have an experience that is so impactful that she writes about it in a college essay, or maybe it is something she mentions in a short answer question from a college or in an interview on campus.  Or maybe she just expands her world view and returns home a better and more interesting human.
